Coping During COVID-19
From the Union Bethel Family Health and Fitness Ministry

Church Family,

As I write this email, I pray it finds you safe and in good mental, emotional and physical health! I wanted to take a moment and reach out to you. The past week and a half has been a whirlwind of constant change and information. These are certainly difficult times where many of us are feeling anxious; so if you are feeling worried, angry, confused, fearful, sad, and concerned, you are not alone!

These feelings are normal considering the challenges COVID-19 brings. With that being the case, I wanted to suggest some beneficial resources and tools you can choose to use until this storm passes. First, I wanted to remind you of the importance of self-care practices. By practicing helpful coping strategies, this will enhance your self-care and help reduce some of your stress and anxiety. One coping strategy you may want to continue (or start) during this time is journaling. I recommend starting with 3-5 things that you are grateful for each day, try not to repeat, be as specific as you can.

God is a thoughtful God and He prepares blessings tailor-made for you. Another suggested coping strategy is to say positive self-affirming statements out loud and even in the mirror, if you like.

Saying reaffirming statements, such as "I am capable and strong, I can get through this!" or "This is difficult and uncomfortable, but it is only temporary!" will interrupt and stop the negative self-talk and enhance your feelings of well-being. Choose a Scripture verse to re-affirm your trust in the Almighty. In addition to these two suggestions, I am also attaching a link to a site that has calming meditations, exercises, music, etc. -- Calm is offering their resources for free during this challenging time.

Let's meet this moment together — Calm Blog
