From the Pastor's Pen - October 14, 2020
Pastor Sembly April 2012 small
Greetings to My Union Bethel Family, I pray that you and your family are safe and well!

I've shared in my Sermons during this period of COVID-19, that these days are among some of the most challenging in our lives! However, it is also an opportunity to do some serious contemplation! Psalm 118a says: "O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good."

As Christians, we can affirm this in that God has and continues to bless us in all things! Every month, there are a number of occasions and events that Americans are encouraged to give focus and express gratitude.

From World Vegetarian Day (1st) World Smile Day, (2nd) Cinnamon Roll Day, (4th) National Be Nice Day, (5th) Southern Food Heritage day (11th) National Gumbo Day (12th) and so on. Literally, each day is designated to give focus to something.

Within the faith community, October is also designated as Pastors Appreciation where members are encouraged to express gratitude to their Pastors! I feel that this -- as with other subjects in which we give focus -- is most appropriate.

However, I feel that it is also significant that I take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the honor and privilege of serving as your Pastor!

You have in many ways; demonstrated that you are among the most loving and supportive congregations in Christendom! Your willingness to share your gifts and talents for the advancement of the Ministry of Jesus Christ is greatly appreciated by me!

My Late Father in Ministry, Rev. Dr. Edgar L. James imparted many words of wisdom to which I refer often. Among that which he shared in the formative years of my Ministry was: "Charles, there are loving people in all of our churches."

You have demonstrated lo these many years your genuine love and support and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much I appreciate that which you done and continue to share with my family and me!

I would that it were possible to say to each of you personally, how much I "appreciate you" in that you have lived up to our motto: We Are Family" and for this I am grateful!

I remain...
In His Service,
Pastor Sembly
