Church School

The Church School was established at Union Bethel in 1961 under the pastorate of Rev. William N. Edwards. Sunday school classes are available for all ages from preschool through high school and adults.
The Union Bethel A.M.E. Church School Mission is to teach, train, nurture, prepare and recruit children and adults in God's word for Christian Service. This teaching is to assist them with effective living and Christian leadership in a changing society. We follow the Great Commission
Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus said, "All power is given unto me in heaven & in earth. Go ye therefore, an teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you."

The Union Bethel A.M.E. Church School Program

The Union Bethel Church School program is supervised by our Church School Superintendant who is certified, trained, and provided with ongoing training and development in new trends in Christian Education by the African Methodist Episcopal Commission on Christian Education.

Open to All:

We encourage all adults and children to participate in our Church School program, and all visitors are always welcome.  Our lively and growing church school program is well attended in classes ranging from toddler care through adult learning.

Teaching Staff:

Union Bethel is blessed to have many wonderful volunteer teachers and assistants who share their gift of teaching and instruction with adults, youth and children in our program.  We are always looking for additional teaching staff that have a dedication to all learners and who are willing to commit to teaching God's word.

Church School Programs and Curriculum:

Cradle Roll

The Cradle Roll program teaches toddlers Biblical truths through music, Bible stories and activities. We teach toddlers about God as they sing, enjoy stories, color pictures and play. At Union Bethel, children learn the truths of God’s Word and develop the character to listen, obey and share.

The curriculum incorporates scripture lessons, songs, art/creative projects and take-home family activities to create a rich and memorable introduction to the important stories and characters of the Bible.

Union Bethel elementary youth participate in a special program designed to explore the Holy Scriptures and different aspects of Christ’s life in ways appropriate for each age and grade level. The lessons often follow the themes used for sermons in church so adults and children may share and discuss teachings with one another.

Middle/High School

Middle- to High school students meet to discuss their studies in Biblical lessons and the truth of God’s Word. Teen youth join together for thought provoking discussions about their Christian faith and its relationship to their lives.

At Union Bethel, each of our adult classes has in-depth studies that bring us closer to understanding God's word. Our programs are designed to help adults live a more meaningful and fulfilling Christian life.

The Union Bethel A.M.E. Church School curriculum is designed to help shape younger students’ spiritual beliefs with elementary teachings of Biblical truth in collaboration with colorful pictures, engaging discussion and activities to instill knowledge leading to changes in attitude and behavior.  The curriculum is designed to encourage and inspire young people to continue their spiritual growth outside the confines of their home, church and school.

Youth in early to late adolescence need wisdom and guidance from the Bible in order to make independent and intelligent choices within the will of God.   The coursework helps shape urban teenagers' spiritual beliefs with deeper teachings of Biblical truth in collaboration with sophisticated Biblical art in the magazines, engaging discussion and activities to instill knowledge leading to changes in attitude and behavior.
